Accreditation

Rhode Island School of Design is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), the regional accreditation agency for colleges and universities in the six New England states. The Commission is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a reliable authority on the quality of education for the institutions it accredits. RISD’s most recent comprehensive review was conducted in 2016.

RISD is also a participating member of the National Council for State Authority Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), which ensures efficient, consistent, and effective regulation of distance education programs.

Some professional degree programs are additionally accredited by discipline-specific accrediting agencies.

Program Accreditation

  • Architecture The Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture programs are accredited by the National Architecture Accrediting Board (NAAB)
  • Landscape Architecture The Master of Landscape Architecture is accredited by the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board (LAAB) of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)
  • Art Education The Master of Arts in Teaching is accredited by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE)
