Students or alumni who need a copy of their academic record (called a ‘transcript’), must request an official transcript online. Transcript ordering is provided through the National Student Clearinghouse, a non-profit organization serving the higher education community.Transcripts can be ordered via the web anytime, 24/7, using any major credit card. A link to the transcript request page is available on the Registrar’s website in the ‘Frequently Requested Forms’ section, or directly through the Clearinghouse website (select Rhode Island School of Design).
The fee for each transcript ordered is $5.00 (plus a $2.25 processing fee per recipient). Transcripts are normally mailed to recipients via regular 1st class United States Postal Service (USPS) mail, for no additional charge. Current fees for express delivery via FedEx are posted on the Registrar’s website. For an additional priority processing (“rush”) fee of $10.00, transcripts will be processed by the next business day, and then delivered based on the method selected.
The official transcript arranges the academic record in semester sequence, prints on official paper, and contains the RISD seal and signature of the Registrar.
Transcripts are processed in the order received. Generally, they are processed within 2-4 business days, except during registration or certain times of the year when requests are especially heavy. Students are encouraged to plan transcript needs accordingly. In addition, currently enrolled students requesting transcripts at the end of a semester must indicate in their request whether the transcript should wait to include the grades for the current semester or be sent immediately. The transcript is a complete and permanent record of all courses and grades taken at the institution while enrolled. As such, requests to remove courses from the transcript are not entertained.
currently, the Registrar’s office does not send or accept electronic transcripts. Please contact the institution from which you are sending a transcript for an official copy to be mailed. Check the Registrar’s Office website for updates on this policy.
Some countries outside of the United States require an “Apostille” on certain documents, usually diplomas or transcripts. The Registrar’s Office will take care of that service for you upon request and payment of the nominal fee.
To start the process, you will need to submit the Request for Apostille Form to the Registrar’s Office.
Please be advised that the Apostille can only be processed with the Office of the Rhode Island Secretary of State once the form along with accompanying documents and payment is received.
Allow 7 to 10 days for processing.
